From what you wrote it seems you think his tweeting is strategic and well thought out. I can’t think of evidence, given what we’ve already seen so far, that can prove it one way or the other. But even if it is strategic, I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be smarter to just act like a normal person and work on getting the base the policies they want.

Certainly not all of it is strategic, and I tend to agree with you that he does have impulse control issues. The best way to characterize matters is that when somebody punches him, he punches back. Our expectation is that the President should ignore these sorts of things, but Trump doesn’t do that.

My point is simply that interpreting his controversial tweets as “distractions” is an assumption not based in fact. Plus, he does get the media off chasing their tails pretty easily.
