I was responding to your complaint that men are victims of “PC witch hunts” (your own words) and that it’s “snowflakes” who can’t handle a bit of banter.

Before this goes any farther, I suggest you define exactly what “banter” is being referred to.

Having been in business for, well…. forever, I can say that at least in MY experience (large tech firms) sexual innuendo in mixed company is rather rare, and has been since I started, back in the Jurassic era. And when it does occur, it’s rather generalized and impersonal. I’d rather not hear it, but a reference to cojones or the drop of an F word (or even that nasty C word, which has happened on a couple of occasions, not directed towards me) doesn’t incite me to do HR violence, because the perp was not a habitual violator of social norms.

However, I do know that on at least ONE of those occasions, a co-worker DID decide to do the HR thing, which I thought was a bit overkill for what was an emotional slip of the tongue.

They’re not innocent and they can choose to modify their behaviour.

Well, this assumes that they’re guilty of something in the first place. I don’t consider occasional profanity a crime.

But when it comes to it, the lads will always protect their own.

A shame. In general, I have had more support in my career from my male colleagues and managers than my female.
