An article about resisting cynicism should at least make an attempt to not be cynical about the candidate one disagrees with.

Trump’s campaign, flawed and nasty and silly as it sometimes is, is based upon the very real concern of working americans that both existing political parties have sold them down the river. The Democrats are obsessed with the needs of the poorest 20% and of microscopically-sized special interest groups, and the GOP is obsessed with the wants of the richest 20% and corporations. Both parties have been pro-globalization and pro-immigration, which are the two elements which the eyes of the working class show as being the reason their good jobs have gone away.

Trump provides a promise (very difficult to deliver on, true, but at least a promise) to address those negative drivers. Clinton offers them more welfare, which is not what they want.

(sighs. not sure why I keep having to explain this to people who otherwise appear intelligent)

Well, maybe it will all be clearer when Hilary puts Lloyd Blankfein in charge of Treasury and signs the TPP. :-)
