It is reasonable to surmise that the reason Amazon offers high wages is because it is tied to high end packages of corporate welfare negotiated by State legislatures which have no value system beyond that of the dollar.
Although I agree with this and the major points in your article, I think it important to point out that the “value system of the state legislature” is foisted upon them by the taxpayers.
The taxpayers want to pay as little tax as possible. So, the state must have other forms of revenue, the best of which is a large corporation which sets up shop and employs more taxpayers, thus spreading the required taxation revenues over more bodies, and decreasing the pressure to raise taxes.
In order to obtain this large corporation, the legislature is willing to concede THEIR taxes for a season (or 10) in order to get the jobs and the personal taxes that come along with having more employees.
