“Also, as a mainstream politician Pence can do a lot more damage.’

I keep hearing this. My reaction is always the same. WTF?

Pence is a traditional Republican. You know how they run the economy; you may not like how they do it, but they run it according to sound principles; the difference between taxing the top 185,000 wage earners in the country (1%) 35% (Trump) rather than 39.6% (Obama) is not horribly relevant.

Social policy? The POTUS has virtually no power over social policy. The POTUS cannot outlaw abortion. The POTUS cannot criminalize individual sexual behavior. The POTUS cannot unilaterally change healthcare policy, welfare policy, child care policy…..anything. Oh, he can nibble around the edges a little, but the core of any of these policies cannot change.

Foreign policy? Well, the GOP runs it in a lot more stable fashion than Trump does. Obviously.

So, what causes people to “fear” Pence so much? We don’t have a fucking monarchy, for crying out loud. He can personally do very little to screw up anyone’s life.
