Each generation seems to gravitate to certain lyric poets or poetesses. Joni Mitchell, Carole King, etc. Taylor Swift is the next generation of that.

As to the general question in your article, I have been pondering recently about the fact that as culture becomes more anti-theistic, the baby is being thrown out with the bathwater, where the "baby" includes the various positive moral teachings of the religious groups (e.g., the bathwater.)
