The entire point of politics is to gain power and keep it. Democrats have shown that they cannot comprehend how to gain power and keep it. They deserve nothing but scorn until they realize how bad they are at their jobs. Clinton outspent Trump nearly 2 to 1 and still lost.

A very good observation. Twice in my lifetime, once after Nixon and once after Bush, the Dems had the opportunity to cement their majority and regain their prior, almost permanent majority they had after the Depression. The result? Six years after Nixon, you had Reagan, and just four years after taking it in 2006, they got smacked down in the House.

No one in the Democratic Party has shown any competence in understanding how power works. It’s just cultural signifiers, a cargo cult that makes the motions to gain power then is dumbfounded when they find out it’s not working.

Hm. Interesting theory. Mine is that the Dem coalition is far too broad to hold together under any specific set of promises. So, they avoid making them, other than broad platitudes which are little more than virtue signalling.

The GOP makes promises to their base and motivated them enough to turn out. The Democrats make no promises and still manage to disappoint. ‘America is Already Great’ according to them.

Well, trying to counter “Make America Great Again” with “We were never not great”, which the Dems tried to do, was suicidal. There are still people feeling substantial financial aftershocks post-Recession. I suspect that’s an example of what you’re getting at.
