Some commentary is required:

“Nevertheless, the extreme right-wing has masterfully turned the “controversy” into another means to exploit racial anxieties and hatred in a country of rapidly changing demographics to cement white racial domination.”

Seriously now. How many of the people railing about this issue in front of their local school boards are standing there thinking “Boy, am I going to ‘cement white racial domination today, or what!”.

Cock and bull nonsense. What they are opposed to are certain methods of teaching antiracism, in particular those which are identitarian in nature. Why? …

I love this little (physically) girl. Part of the reason is that she’s little only in stature. Her personality is huge, her influence on her sport is towering, and when US Gymnastics appeared ready to ignore the larger implications of what enabled serial abuser Larry Nassar, she took courageous action. The courage she continues to exhibit in taking down the paternalist nightmare that US Gymnastics is goes without saying.

Into one human flowed all these conflicting pressures: The pressure to perform in an elite competition, the added pressure of being a favorite to win, and if that’s not enough, the…

(Originally wrote this one on March 9. New information has come to light since, making me feel really good about the original article. New discussion in the section below marked UPDATE.)

There are four groups of people who read that title:

  1. You didn’t take life science courses, and you think that this might be a nice article about a new Italian restaurant.
  2. You did take life science courses, forgot what that meant, and I just gave you an unpleasant flashback to something you would have rather forgotten.
  3. You did take life science courses, work in specific areas of life science…

Eid Mubarak! Is the traditional greeting at the end of each Ramadan period. It’s a simple translate, Eid meaning “feast” or “festival” and Mubarak meaning something more close to “Blessed”. So, Eid Mubarak, Ramadan Mubarak, and Jummah Mubarak (where Jummah is the holy day of the week, Friday) all make reasonable sense.

Having just finished Ramadan 2021, I wanted to write a little bit about the experience, specifically the difficulty of the experience, because the difficulty has to be experienced to be understood. So, buckle up; this is one girl’s journey through this year’s Ramadan.

Let’s levelset. Most non-Muslims know…

Quick: When you think back on the past half-decade of political campaigns, what do you miss? Is it pointless celebrity vanity campaigns? Irresponsible culture war fearmongering?

Yes, which is why I wanted to read your article, which clearly engages in such fearmongering. :-)

Buckle up, friend: Caitlyn Jenner is running for Governor of California, and her first major policy recommendation is banning trans girls from sports.

I hardly think a quick question while getting into her vehicle qualifies as a "major policy recommendation." Plus, you should not lie: she did not recommend banning trans girls from sports. …

The debate is indeed odd. Nobody would seriously argue that skin color is attached to social behaviors; its a minor genetic variable that's not accociated with anything.

Therefore, if mass killings in the US are primarily perpetrated by white people, the logically one has to look for any social conditions which incline them to commit said crimes........or enter into a discusison about mental health (which takes you back to the aforementioned social conditions.)

Mental health problems are, one would assume, rather evenly distributed. This snippet from psychiatry.org would seem to back that up:

Rates of mental illnesses in African Americans…

Anyway. :-)

After all, wasn’t it the strength of the Republican party that helped give us Trump?

No. Kind of surprised anyone would view the morass of candidates the GOP have thrown up over the last two cycles and judge the condition of the GOP as anything other than chaotic.

Trump arose from a weakness in the party, a party which is unable to decide if it should be a small government (Rand Paul) or large government party (George Bush), a federalist (Tea Party) or central government party (Mitch McConnell), a socially conservative (Sarah Palin) or who-cares-about-social-issues party (John McCain), or a…

I’ve always thought poker contained apt analogies for politics and elections. Granted, a lot of people view both as sporting events, and there are indeed analogies there also. But ultimately, a sporting event is about imposing your will on another, and at the end of the day, there is a winner and a loser.

Politics and elections don’t work like that. In poker, there can be a winner, but a person that loses often goes home happy as well, depending on how little they lost or won. And games aren’t just single hands that finish in a single moment; they…

Well, here we are again, and everyone’s hair is on fire because next Tuesday is comin’ up fast, folks. Should be fun.

Of course, part of the reason people’s hair is on fire is because of the brand spankin’ new SCOTUS justice, Amy Barrett. Because everyone (well, especially those odd, subhuman creatures known as the Twitter Blue Checks) just KNOW what is actually impossible to know — — that she is there to ignore the law completely and vote, should she get the chance, for a Trump Second Term.

(removes tongue from cheek)

Putting the nonsensicality of that above paragraph…
